Srinagar- The much awaited 500 bedded Children Hospital in Bemina area of the city has started to function from Monday. The Hospital is set to raise the benchmark of health infrastructure in the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

An official said that all machinery and other equipment have been shifted to the Hospital and it has started functioning. He said that machinery and all equipment have been installed at the hospital so that the patients won’t suffer.

As the hospital was thrown open, the hospital witnessed a rush of patients who lined up to get their children treated.

Speaking to Kashmir Observer, Medical Superintendent Children Hospital Dr Nazir Chaudhary said that the bedding capacity has been doubled at the hospital compared to G.B Pant Hospital.

“At G.B Pant hospital the bedding capacity was 240, which has been increased to 500 beds. Similarly, the number of ventilators has doubled from around 30 to 64” Dr Chaudhary said.

He further said that the Hospital thrown open is not an ordinary Hospital but a Specialty Institute. Specialized treatment will be provided to children suffering from dermatological, nephrological, urological and other health ailments.

“Earlier, children were referred to other hospitals and even outside for specialized treatment but now all the health facilities will be provided under one roof” he added.

He said the new hospital has upgraded infrastructure and proper parking facilities for vehicles.
