Srinagar- Government forces arrested two drug peddlers, including a woman who is suspected to be involved in cross-Line of Control (LoC) smuggling, in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir and recovered narcotics from their possession, police said on Monday.
Acting on a specific information that a woman drug smuggler namely Razia Begum, and her associate Aftab Ahmad Shah — both residents of Takiya Bahadurkote were on way in Cheterkote area to sell narcotics among youth of Karnah, a joint naka was established by police, including lady Police officials, and Army, a police spokesman said.
During the naka checking, the duo was apprehended and heroin-like substances weighing 35 grams and 43 grams respectively were recovered from their possession, he said.
A case was registered and further investigation is in progress.
The husband of the woman drug smuggler and her two brothers are already lodged in jail for their involvement in cross border narcotics smuggling, the spokesman said.
The arrest of the woman is a big breakthrough for the police as she is suspected to be deeply involved in cross -LoC smuggling of the narcotics in Karnah area of the north Kashmir district, he said.
