Militant Killed In Ongoing Encounter In Srinagar's Nowgam: Police

Srinagar- A militant has been killed in an encounter that broke out on the outskirts of Srinagar city on Wednesday.

Acting on specific inputs about the presence of militants in the Nowgam area of the city, the government forces had launched a cordon-and-search operation there, a police official said.

He said the search operation turned into an encounter when the militants opened fire at the  forces personnel, who retaliated.

A militant has been killed in the encounter so far, the official said, adding that the operation was still going on.

Meanwhile, IGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar in a tweet said that militants involved in recent killing of Khanmoh’s Sarpanch Sameer Bhat are trapped in the encounter.
