Srinagar- The government forces on Thursday arrested an 18-day old militant from central Kashmir’s Budgam district, officials said.
Jehangir Ahmad Naikoo of Memandar Shopian was arrested by a joint team of police, army’s 53RR and the personnel of CRPF 181 battalion during an input driven search operation in Gamander area of Chadoora on Thursday morning, a police spokesperson said.
“Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including one pistol, two pistol magazines, and 16 pistol rounds have been recovered from his possession,” he said.
Accordingly, he said, a case vide FIR number 06/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Chadoora and further investigation has been initiated.
According to an army spokesperson, Naikoo was associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba and had joined the militant fold on January 2, this year.
Divulging more details of the search operation, the spokesperson said that soldiers established the cordon around 06:50 AM and due to imminent danger to civilians residing in the area the army men commenced with their evacuation to a safe area in the village.
Around 8:00 am, he said, the hiding militant tried to escape through a narrow lane when the soldiers started closing in the cordon.
“He was successfully apprehended without any collateral damage to any civilian or civil property by own troops,” he added.
Missing Youth Held With Arms: Police
A missing youth who had joined militant ranks, was arrested by police in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, officials said Thursday.
Rahil Showkat Dar of Drabgam was arrested by a joint team of police, army’s 44RR and CRPF 183 battalion when he tried to flee and fire at the security personnel at a checkpoint established in Pachahar Rajpora area of the district, a police spokesperson said Thursday.
Dar, he said, had recently gone missing regarding which a missing report was lodged by his family members at Police Station Rajpora. The missing youth, he said, had recently joined militant ranks.
“During his personal search, one Pistol and several rounds of ammunition were recovered from his possession,” the police spokesperson said.
Accordingly, he said, a case vide FIR No. 04/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Rajpora and further investigation has been initiated.
