GULMARG- The first ever National Curling Championship cum National Camp 2022 was organised in Gulmarg.
Curling Federation of India (CFI), the National Governing body for the sport of Curling, organised this camp cum Championship in association with J&K Curling Association and JKTDC, from 7th to 12th January in Gulmarg. The event is sponsored by likes of Religare Group, a financial conglomerate, Hamdard Group, amongst others. The Championship was being attended by more than 200 athletes from 20 states teams participating in the games.
Curling also popularly known as “Chess on Ice” has been a medal sport in the Winter Olympic Games since the 1998 Winter Olympics. It currently includes men’s, women’s and mixed doubles tournaments.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Chief Guest Dr. Rashmi Saluja, Chairperson, Religare Enterprises Limited and also President, Curling Federation India and Yogeshwar Dutt, Olympian & world renowned wrestler.
Senior officials from the J&K Tourism department and Police department were also present to grace the occasion along with Officials from the Indian Curling Federation.
Twenty Teams with around 200 players attended the championship. It is the first time that such type of National Championship was organized in J&K.
Yogeshwar Dutt said that he is thankful to Dr. Rashmi Saluja, President, CFI for inviting him for this event and the sport will flourish under her leadership.
