Srinagar- Panic gripped several districts of Jammu division on Friday after a starlink satellite train was seen over skies which people mistook as mysterious light of an aerial object.

According to the reports, a trail of white and bright light appeared in the sky for quite some time during Friday evening and the phenomenon was witnessed by several people in Rajouri, Poonch and Pathankot areas and they captured it on their mobile phones as well.

“This kind of bright light was seen for the first time and it just looked like a train darting through the night sky. This is something we have seen for the first time in our lives. The lights appeared in the sky for quite a while and later it disappeared,” said a resident from Rajouri.

However, a top police official urged people not to panic and said that the mysterious light was that of a starlink satellite train seen over the sky.

Additional Director General of Police, Mukesh Singh a starlink train of satellites have been seen over the horizon of Rajouri and Poonch districts.

“The mysterious lights are of a satellite of starlink train category,” Singh said.

Pertinently, Elon Musk’s starlink satellite train is a category of satellite which is often seen in the sky.

Notably, earlier this year, similar mysterious kinds of bright lights gliding across the sky were seen in Gujarat’s Junagadh and its adjoining areas.

At that time, experts had suggested that the light appeared to have been satellites passing through a low earth orbit. (With agency inputs)
