Srinagar: A non-local labourer died and two of his colleagues were hospitalised on Tuesday due to ‘asphyxiation’ in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

20-year-old Ansar and 22-year-old Azim, both residents of Uttar Pradesh and Ubaid Ahmad Parra of Homehana Nagbal were brought to a local hospital at Zainapora in unconscious condition, officials said. Upon assessment, the doctors declared one labourer namely Ansar as brought dead on arrival, they said.

The two other labourers after being kept under observation were later on referred to a Srinagar hospital for treatment, they said.

The labourers were lodged at a rented accommodation at Nagbal in Zainapora area, they further said.

A police official told a local news agency GNS that the incident primarily seems to have taken place due to asphyxiation. “We are looking into the facts to ascertain the actual cause”, the official added.
