Premier Division: Police Beat Heroes, Avengers Shock Bank

SRINAGAR: On Saturday, J&K Police XI defeated Downtown Heroes FC 1-0, while Kashmir Avengers pipped J&K Bank XI 1-0 in the two matches of the JKFA Khyber Premier Division League 2021 at Synthetic Turf TRC here.

In the first match of the day, J&K Police XI went head to head with Downtown Heroes FC. Police’s Salman Hussain gave his team the lead in the 10th minute. The Police XI dug in for the rest of the match and displayed an astute defensive prowess to keep out the Heroes’ forward line. The DHFC tried to find an equaliser but failed to convert opportunities. Mansoor of J&K Police XI was awarded man of the match award.

The second Premier League match of the day was played between Kashmir Avengers FC and J&K Bank XI. The result proved to be a shocker for J&K Bank, as they lost their first match of this League campaign.

The match was played in front of a huge crowd and both teams displayed their footballing qualities. A closely fought contest, the match saw the first half end 0-0. In the second half of the game, the tides turned in favour of the Avengers as they struck a 75th minute goal through Kelvin.

The Bank team tried hard to equalise but failed to find the net. Kashmir Avengers won 1-0 and Burhan was awarded man of the match.

Both J&K Bank XI and Downtown Heroes FC were undefeated in the Premier League before Saturday’s matches.

The tournament is being telecast live for the first time on ANN News Channel.
