Srinagar: At least 10.35 percent population in Jammu and Kashmir is living below the national poverty line, reveals Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Index 2021.
A survey conducted by Niti Aayog reveals that over 10.35 percent of the population in J&K is living below the national poverty line while just 4.20 percent of households with any usual member are covered by a health scheme or health insurance.
It was also stated that Jammu and Kashmir was producing over 2339.65 kilogram hectares of rice and wheat annually in accordance with per unit area, reveals Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Index 2021.
The report states that the global SDG aims to double agricultural productivity by 2030.
It reveals that the indicators have been selected based on the availability of data at the sub-national level and to ensure comparability across States and UTs.
“Tamil Nadu and Delhi are the top performers among the States and the UTs. J&K stands on 7th rank among Union Territories with scoring 69 against the national average of 60,” it reads.
As per the SDG index, the national poverty line in Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory stands at 10.35. Global SDG target reduces at least by half the proportion of men, women and children of all ages living in poverty in all its dimensions according to national definitions.
Further, only 4.20 percent of households with any usual member covered by a health scheme or health insurance are there in UT.
This target corresponds to the global SDG target that aims to implement nationally appropriate social protection systems and measures for all.
The Niti Aayog data reveals that 4.30 percent of households of Jammu and Kashmir were living in Kacha houses.
