Srinagar: The coronavirus imposed weekend curfew closed businesses again in Srinagar and other major districts of Kashmir on Saturday even as police arrested 183 violators and filed a case against 94 others in the Valley.
Most of the shops, and other business establishments remained closed on Saturday while public transport was off the roads in wake of the weekend curfew imposed by authorities to combat the spread of Covid-19, reports said Saturday. At most places, reports said, police and paramilitary men were deployed in big numbers to enforce corona curfew and restrict the movement of people.
At many places, forces had blocked roads and important crossings with barbed wire and armoured vehicles. However, essential and emergency services were allowed.
In a statement issued to media here, a police spokesperson said that during the last 24 hours, police have arrested 187 persons, lodged 97 FIRs and also realized fine to the tune of Rs 3, 09,140 from 2543 people throughout the Kashmir valley for violating the various Covid-19 related rules and guidelines.
“The special drive against the violators of Covid-19 guidelines/rules continued throughout all the districts of Kashmir Valley to ensure that people adhere to SOPs/guidelines envisaged by the government to curb COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.
Last week, the government ordered complete ‘Corona’ with no movement of people except for permissible activities from Friday 8p.m. to Monday 7 a.m. till further orders.
