The Rise and Rise of Drug Menace

DRUG ADDICTION is a lot like other diseases, such as heart disease. Both disrupt the normal, healthy functioning of an organ in the body. People with addiction have an intense focus on using a certain substance(s) such as alcohol or drugs, to the point that it takes over their life. It also creates a domino effect on the lives of those around them, gradually involves society and becomes a menace or a social evil.

The menace of drug addiction is spreading far and wide in Kashmir valley, particularly among the youth.

Earlier, drug abuse was more prevalent in urban areas especially among the urban poor. Now, this has completely changed. Substance abuse has knocked the doors of rural areas as well. One of the official reports of Narcotics Control Bureau of Union Ministry of Home Affair’s which revealed that J&K is one of the leading cultivators of illicit crops.

Drug addiction is a social evil & it is the tragedy of our days that a large number of youth, the future of society falls victims have taken to drugs.

This has not only put those who consume drugs at health risks but is also responsible for increase in many law and order problems.

We must actively take steps to stop this menace from spreading further. Parents can play a primarily role as they can engage meaningfully with their adolescent children and guide them. Some studies have found that teens who learn about the risks of drugs from their parents are 50% less likely to use drugs.

We can’t afford to lose any more time.
