Representational PicRajouri: A herd of 150 sheep and goats perished in lightning amid heavy rains late Monday night at upper reaches of Kalakote in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Reports said that a total of 157 sheep and goats were killed late last night after the lightning struck Poutha forest area of Kalakote.
The sheep belonged to five persons and the incident occurred when their herds were on seasonal migration towards Kashmir Valley, they said.
Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Sheikh Nazir visited the spot and announced Rs 50 thousand each to five families under Red Cross fund as compensation.
“I have directed concerned department to allot the sheep units to each one of them,” DC said.
