SMC Refutes Home Quarantine Orders

Srinagar: The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Monday refuted media reports claiming that the city’s civic body has issued directive to officials to go for home quarantine after a corporator’s brother tested positive for coronavirus.

Commissioner, SMC, Gazanfar Ali said today that the news that surfaced after the brother of a corporator was tested positive for Covid-19 was factually incorrect.

“No such directives were received by my office neither have my office issued any order in this regard.” Ali said

He said that the Commissioner’s Office has no contact with the concerned corporator as his office is in a separate building.

Ali further said the SMC works were going in full swing amid the pandemic and all the preventive measures were being taken by the officials including use of protective gears and sanitizers.

“The Commissioner said that it will be encouraged if anyone having contact with the concerned corporator goes into self-quarantine till his test reports are received,” SMC Commissioner, as per an official spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, SMC Commissioner today convened a meeting of senior officials to review various works being carried by the Corporation.

“On the occasion, threadbare discussions was held on proper functioning of the drainage system, sanitation works, removing of encroachment on water bodies and river banks and the installation of high-mast lights in the city,” the official spokesperson added.
