Among them is a Kashmiri song promising, “We shall meet again and celebrate”, after this pandemic is over.
IN 1912, one band through their music showed the world what real heroism is when the world’s iconic and majestic Titanic was sinking into the North Atlantic Ocean, south of Newfoundland, Canada. They showed the world a whole different dimension of a musician and music.
Yet again, after a century in 2020, during the time of the pandemic, musicians have come together from across the globe and composed great and soothing music in different languages.
Kashmir Observer has curated a list of five songs—bringing out the positivity amidst the current crisis situation:
1) Shahr Khaali, A Persian Song
The Persian poem is ringing over cyberspace these days in a haunting description of the corona-stricken world of today.
For innumerable social media enthusiasts, the song shahr khaali, jadeh khaali, koocha khaali....(Empty cities, desolate roads, deserted lanes...), sung a decade ago by Tajik singer Nigora Kholova set to a tune of suppressed lament, is a surprisingly prophetic reflection of life under the shadow of the coronavirus.
Not totally unknown in the past though, particularly in countries like Afghanistan and Tajikistan with strong Persian influences on language and culture, the poem had first been composed by Afghan singer Amir Jan Soboori for its stark resemblance to the desolation of his country.
The song is a sonnet asking people to come to revive the older times.
2) Italy's National Anthem
Italy has shown the world the power of unison, after the pandemic hit the country very hard.
Amid a disastrous situation, they’ve joined together in a show of national solidarity, tuning in to their radios to sing the national anthem together.
They opened their windows and balcony doors to sing loudly with their neighbours.
3) Ya Rab Hame Ek Dusre Se Phir Milana, A Kashmiri Song
Kashmir’s well-known singer, Raja Bilal, launched a song on March 26, to show the solidarity with the healthcare specialists fighting the Covid-19 at the forefront.
The song written by Safia Gulzar has beautifully described the strength of the valley during the ongoing crisis.
As an epitome of hope, the song promises, “We shall meet again and celebrate”, after this pandemic is over.
4) Muskurayega India
Amid the ongoing crisis situation, Bollywood collaborated with Jjust Music and Cape of Good Films in its resolve to fight against coronavirus and the result is a music video featuring several Indian celebrities, like Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, Vicky Kaushal, Kriti Sanon, and Bhumi Pednekar, among others.
The song, Muskurayega India, is an attempt to give hope to Indians amid the testing times of Covid-19.
This is an attempt to keep the spirit of togetherness intact.
While sharing the video of the song on Twitter Tuesday morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote: “India will smile again, India will win again.”
5) A Chinese Corona Anthem
China’s state media has released an anthem ‘Believe Love Will Triumph’ to keep spirits up while the nation fights the novel coronavirus.
It stars celebrities, including Jackie Chan, Wang Leehom, Xiao Zhan and Tong Liya.
The song is an inspirational, as it shows gratitude to medical staffs and doctors for fighting like a soldier and saving millions of lives from this medical emergency across the world.
