3 Held For ‘Abusing Minor Girl On Shikara’


SRINAGAR — Police Saturday said it had arrested three persons for physically abusing a minor girl on a shikara (boat) inside Dal Lake.

On 18 July, police station Nigeen received an information that a minor girl (name withheld) has been physically abused by two persons in a shikara inside Dal at Hazratbal, a police spokesperson said.

“On this information case FIR No. 65/19 U/s 376,109 RPC stands registered in the Police Station Nigeen and the police instantly swung into action and rescued the girl followed by subsequent arrest of the accused,” added the spokesperson.

Those arrested were identified by the official as Tawheed Ahmad Mir (Aide) S/o Showkat Ahmad Mir R/o Sadrabal and Ehsan-ul-haq (main accused) s/o Showkat Ahmad Yatoo R/o Sadrabal. “However, the third accused Bilal Ahmad Dar @Kila S/o Gh. Nabi Dar R/o Dargah taking advantage of the deep waters fled from the spot,” said the spokesperson.

He said a police team was constituted by SP Hazratbal to nab the third accused and that the night raids were conducted at various places. “… and at about 10:30hrs, the third accused was also arrested,” the spokesperson said.
