Central Jail Inmates Suspend Strike

SRINAGAR — Inmates of Central Jail Srinagar on Wednesday suspended their strike following assurances by the district administration.

Sources said that Tehsildar Khanyar Abdul Rahman Dar who was deputed by the district administration met the inmates at the Central Jail following which they suspended the strike.

The inmates went on strike after the April 5 violence inside the highly guarded facility.

On Tuesday, family members of the inmates staged a protest at the Press Enclave in Srinagar and demanded that the cases registered against the prisoners over April 5 violence be withdrawn.

The policeman Mohammad Rafiq was taken to SKIMS, Soura for treatment where his condition is said to be stable, the officer added.
