Lifespan Extension Secrets

Household appliances are expensive. With some appliances costing 40,000 rupees and beyond, there’s no doubt that one would want their appliances to last several years. However, with how appliances are manufactured nowadays, ensuring you’re purchasing quality, long-lasting home appliances is not as easy as it may sound.

Refrigerators are one of the many things homeowners want to last a long time. While according to Consumer Reports, the average lifespan of refrigerators is 13 years, one is lucky to get their fridge to run smoothly without the need for repairs or replacements after having it for just a few years.

If you’re wanting your refrigerator to last a long time, which will certainly help you save money in the long run, consider engaging in the following:

1. Ensure your refrigerator is filled without overstuffing it.

Keeping your fridge stocked but not overstuffed at all times is important to keep it lasting for years to come. When your fridge is nearly empty, warm air quickly rushes in while cold air escapes each time you open your appliance. However, a fridge that is too stuffed can cause air circulation issues, causing your fridge’s compressor to overwork itself.

2. Keep your refrigerator away from heat.

If you must place your refrigerator near a source of heat, you may wish to rent air conditioner to place near your fridge, especially if you have your appliance placed in a hot garage. Keeping your refrigerator from overheating will ensure its compressor won’t have to be replaced as frequently, which isn’t the cheapest to replace.

3.  Refrain from storing items on top of your refrigerator.

While the top of your fridge may seem like a great place for storing cereal boxes, bags of chips, and loaves of bread, doing this actually traps more heat as your fridge has a harder time properly ventilating heat. As a result, this can exhaust your fridge’s compressor. As a result, this can generally shorten your fridge’s lifespan. That said, keep the top of your fridge clear.

4. Rent a refrigerator instead of buying one.

One of the greatest benefits of opting for a fridge on rent is that you won’t have to worry about having to fork out a significant amount of rupees to purchase another one if yours suddenly malfunctions or stops working altogether. Instead, you can just rent another, simple as that.

By renting rather than buying, some of the liability of your fridge may be covered by the lender in terms of its maintenance, cleaning, and/or replacement.

Refrigerators are not cheap appliances. That said, it’s important that you know how to treat your fridge right, so it will last its life expectancy, if not longer.

Some great ways to extend the lifespan of your refrigerator include neither under-filling nor overstuffing it, keeping it away from heat, and refraining from storing items on top of it. Renting a refrigerator as opposed to purchasing one is another great way to save yourself the risks of your fridge dying on you and having to buy a completely new one.
