NIA Summons Mirwaiz To Delhi For Questioning

SRINAGAR —  The NIA has summoned Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and the son of Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani for questioning to New Delhi in a case registered at the behest of the government of India, officials said on Saturday.

The National Investigation Agency notice to Mirwaiz comes three weeks after government withdrew his security and ten days after the NIA carried raids at his residence along with Geelani’s son Naseem Geelani besides Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik who has since been booked under Public Safety Act.

Also NIA raided houses of Democratic Freedom Party Shabir Shah, arrested and lodged in Tihar jail, Zaffar Bhat—chairman of Salvation Movement, incarcerated leader of Muslim League Masarat Alam and Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai, the chairman of the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat.

Both Mirwaiz and Naseem have been asked to appear at the NIA headquarters in New Delhi on Monday.

The NIA had also questioned two maternal uncles of the Mirwaiz—Maulvi Manzoor and Maulvi Shafat—and his close aides last year.

Meanwhile, Mirwaiz was placed under house arrest soon after he was summoned by the NIA.
