SRINAGAR Civil society group, Kashmir Centre for Social and Development Studies (KCSDS) Monday lashed out at the central and state government for launching multi-pronged undeclared Psychological and military, media and constitutional offensive against an entire populace in the valley in which every soul has been put on tenterhooks, in a state of ominous tortuous wait of the frightful tomorrow.
The massive crackdown on an almost politically dormant religious party , rounding up hundreds of youth and resistance leaders and activists throughout the valley and airdropping 100 companies of CRPF overnight to supplement already swelling numbers of armed forces gratuitously, is to instill extreme fear and create panic to subdue and strangulate an entire population and third the attack on the freedom of press to put embargo on truthful reportage of Greater Kashmir and KR by way of arm twisting to reap electoral dividends in coming elections. The belated assurance by the governor to people that there is nothing to panic is a cruel joke.
After creating the panic and extreme fear and then ask the people that there is no reason to panic is like asking the dying person why are you dying after having been served the poison. Besides the politically partisan governor has undertaken the task of demolishing the basic structure of the state constitution by taking decisions which have eroded and diluted states basic political identity which no governor has the authority to do. This has further aggravated the sense of insecurity and destroyed the remnants of political identity of the state, KCSDS said in a statement.
Arrest spree widely condemned
The crackdown on separatist, religious and political organizations Monday drew widespread condemnation with the Mirwaiz Umar Farooq-led Hurriyat Conference (M) terming it as ultimate highhandedness of the present authorities to weaken the ongoing peaceful Kashmir struggle while the Jamaat-e-Islami said it was being targeted by Indian rulers for their own electoral gains.
The ongoing arrest spree wherein religious scholars, resistance leaders, and activists, are being detained in bulk and lodged in various police stations is being done under a well-thought-out plan which is getting exposed with each passing day, a spokesman of the Hurriyat faction said.
The Hurriyat (M) said that the arrest of its senior leader Mukhtar Ahmed Waza and lodging him in Joint Interrogation Centre Achabal and also the arrest of AAC Tehsil president Chair-e-Sharief Haji Muhammad Younis and lodging him in Central Jail Srinagar besides the arrest of dozens of youth and pro-freedom activists speaks volumes about the authoritarian approach of the state administration.
Conducting nocturnal raids on the homes of resistance leaders and activists, and launching the intense crackdown across Kashmir that result in the ultimate harassment of youth and people seems to be a move to divert the ongoing Kashmir struggle but those behind this conspiracy should read writing on the wall that such ploys are destined to fail, he said.
Suppression of peaceful political dissent by police and army is equivalent to imposition of martial law. Putting peaceful political activists, religious, social leaders behind bars and choking space on political activities cannot put nation of Kashmir into submission, said the JKLF on Monday while condemning the ongoing crackdown against political and religious organizations and leaders.
A JKLF statement said that police accompanied by CRPF last night and today morning raided the residences of partys vice chairman Showkat Ahmad Bakhshi and zonal vice president Muhammad Yasin Butt and harassed their families and relatives.
The Jamaat-e-Islami in a statement said it was again being targeted for reasons unknown to it.
It seems that those who currently rule India are resorting to unethical machinations aimed at addressing their own electoral constituencies and garnering votes out of this despotic approach even at the cost of basic human values which remain essence of any democratic set up, it said.
However, Jamaat is determined to sustain its activities irrespective of ordeals, through constitutional and legal means. We will continue to carry forward our routine educational, welfare, charity and religious activities within framework of our organizational Constitution (Dastoor-i-Jamaat), which mandates use of all peaceful means in a democratic way. All our activities are open, visible and transparent. Jamaat is a cadre based organization with its presence in every nook and corner of the State. Thousands of needy persons and deprived sections of our society are directly benefitting from educational and charity works of Jamaat-e-Islami. Any interference in Jamaats peaceful activities will directly affect the wellbeing of these sections of society.
