SRINAGAR With Srinagar outskirts receiving fresh snowfall and people clearing their sidewalks and driveways, Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) on Wednesday said shovelling of the snow increases the risk of heart attack.
DAK President Dr Nisar ul Hassan in a statement issued here on Wednesday said, Lifting snow is incredibly taxing on heart and can trigger a fatal heart attack.
A 2017 study published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal associated snow shovelling with heightening the risk of having a heart attack. Shovelling was found to raise the risk of heart attack by 16 per cent and death from a heart attack by 34 per cent, he said.
Dr Hassan said snow shovelling causes sudden increase in blood pressure and heart rate that puts more strain on the heart.
