There was no accommodation for any of us, no transportation and other promised facilities, said a protesting councillor from Handwara.
The furious councillors added that they all were left on roads till 9:00 pm as there was no accommodation or transport facility available for them. We are ready to work for the benefit of people but not at the cost of our security, said a female councillor from Handwara.
The government mentioned in the letter that proper accommodation and transportation would be provided to the elected councillors during the three days training session, Iram Banday a councillor from Handwara said.
The president added that despite repeated requests to the Divisional Commissioner and additional commissioner of the state to look into the matter, there were no initiatives taken by them which ultimately led us to hit the streets. The councillors threatened to resign from their jobs if they continue to receive a shoddy treatment.
