26 Tippers Seized For Illegally Ferrying Sand

SRINAGAR — The Geology and Mining department Tuesday seized 26 tippers carrying the sand which was illegally extracted from river Jehlum along Kadlabal Pampore to Rajbagh belt.

“It was a joint operation supervised by District Mineral Officer Srinagar and Budgam respectively. Twenty-six tippers were seized along Jehlum Belt in Kadlabal, Pantha Chowk and Rajbagh areas,” Sartaj Ahmed, District Mineral Officer, said. He added that “strict action will be initiated against violators in future as well.”

All the 26 vehicles after seizure were handed over to police station Pantha Chowk.  An official said that over Rs 3.5 lakh was realized from the violators.

“We have been continuously receiving complaints that a mafia is using tippers to mine material from the Jehlum. We have decided to go tough against these violators,” he added.
