Locals Attack Firemen In Bandipora During Fire Fighting Operations

BANDIPORA — A fringe group in Bandipora attacked a Fire Tender in Bandipora when it was on way to douse a fire that had erupt the area.

Reports said a minor fire erupted in Jamia Qadeem area of Bandipora on Saturday evening. Local youth swung into action to douse the fire and also informed the Fire and Emergency Services Bandipora.

 “As soon as the fire tenders reached the spot, few elderly persons of the area attacked the firemen, heckled them and abused them and didn’t allowed  them to start their operation ,” said a local. 

Locals said it took few minutes to the fire tenders to reach the spot that enraged few individuals who according to them are habitual of such behavior, attacked the  firemen and didn’t allowed them to start their operations despite pleas by  majority of the  residents of the area.

The residents regretted the incident and appealed administration to take action against them.

Meanwhile an official of the Fire and Emergency Services said their control room received a call at 18:20 hours (6:20pm) and after confirmation the firemen marched from the station at 18:25 hours (6:25pm). “But few anti-social elements stopped them from doing their operations. We have identified the persons and will approach law enforcing agencies to take action against them,” he added.
