SRINAGAR Two militants and an army soldier were killed in a gunfight in Pazalpora area of Sopore on Friday.
Reports said that two militants were killed in the encounter which broke out in wee hours of Friday after armys 22 RR, SOG and CRPF 92 battalion launched a cordon-and-search operation in Pazalpora area of Sopore.
An army soldier, identified as Brijesh Kumar who was injured in the initial gunfire succumbed at the military hospital at 92 base Badamibagh in Srinagar.
SSP Sopore Javid Iqbal said that the operation was launched following the specific inputs about the presence of some militants in the area.
In wake of the killing of two militants, authorities snapped internet services in Baramulla and Sopore while all colleges and higher secondary schools in Baramulla, Sopore and Rafiabad were closed.
Meanwhile, at least 20 persons were injured in alleged use of bullets, pellets and other force by government forces during clashes with youth in south Kashmirs Anantnag and Kulgam districts where four militants, killed in a gunfight yesterday, were laid to rest.
Reports said that youth clashes with government forces at Anantnag, Redwani, Arwani, Wanpora, Khudwani, Bijbehara, Hawora-Mishpora, Watoo Aharbal and Damhal Hanjipora areas in the dsitrict.
“We received five injured persons. Out of them, three had pellet wounds in the body and two had firearm injuries in their legs,” Medical Superintendent Anantnag Dr Abdul Majeed Mehrab said.
He said that all the injured have been referred to Srinagar hospitals for advanced treatment.
A doctor at sub-district hospital Bijbehara said that two injured persons including one with pellet injuries and another firearm leg, were received at the hospital.
An official from Kulgam said that at least 13 persons were injured in clashes in parts of Kulgam including Redwani.
Among them, the official said, three received bullet wounds and were referred to Srinagar hospital.
Reports of clashes were also received from parts of Baramulla including Old Town Baramulla, Bag-i-Islam, Brat Kalan Sopore and its adjoining areas.
Six militants were killed in separate gunfights yesterday at Arwani in Anantnag and Kreeri in Baramulla were lkaid to rest.
Four militants of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen Sahir Makroo of Arwani, Owais Ahmad Lone from Hawora-Mishpora area of Kulgam, Muzamil Magray of Watoo Aharbal and Amir Tantray of Damhal Hanjipora Kulgam were killed in a gunfight with the forces in Khar mohalla of Arwani last night.
Minhajul Mohiudin son of Ghulam Mohiuddin resident of Brath Kalan Sopore and Aqeel Rashid Sofi (17) son of Abdul Rashid Sofi of Khanpora, Baramulla. Thousands of people attended their funerals in respective villages on Friday and were laid to rest amid pro-freedom slogans, reports said.
