SRINAGAR At least 25 youth who were arrested last week as they were proceeding towards Takipora Lolab to express solidarity with the family of scholar turned militant Manan Wani were released by police.
Officials said that seven among them were booked under a case FIR number 80/2018 under sections 147,148, 149, 336, 352 and 13 Unlawful Activities Act, were released on the bail.
The release comes a day after a civil society group in this north Kashmir district urged the government to release all the boys detained during the funeral of Hizb commander. The youth were detained on way to the home of slain commander to express solidarity with the bereaved family.
Earlier a delegation of senior members of the civil society Tikkipora called upon SHO Sogam and demanded the release of all the youth including those from south Kashmir, who were arrested either during Mannans funeral or on their way to Tikipora last week.
We told the SHO that fuel is being added to the fire by making arrests and keeping innocent youth behind the bars. We told him if the situation remained peaceful, why police arrested the youth, a senior citizen, who was part of the delegation, said.
