Poll Contestants Huddled In High Security Hotels

SRINAGAR — Additional Director General Police law and order and security Muneer Ahmad Khan on Thursday said that police has put poll contestants of municipal and panchayat elections in hired hotels already guarded by heavy contingents of police and paramilitaries.

Talking about the security plans for the poll candidates in future, Khan said “Government would think about incidental and cluster security after the polls are over.”

Talking to a local news agency, KNS, ADGP Muneer Khan said: “the number of candidates for Panchayat and Municipal elections unlike assembly and parliamentary elections is very large and the number of candidates for ongoing civic elections is in thousands. The candidates have to be provided security but police can’t provide security to every individual. The strategy for incidental and cluster security arrangements is being given a serious thought and once the Municipal and Panchayat elections are over, the security of the all contestants will be reviewed. Presently the candidates contesting municipal and panchayat elections have been lodged in hired hotels already guarded by the heavy contingents of police and paramilitaries.”

Independents Demand Security

The Independents candidates who are contesting in the upcoming Municipal polls in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday demanded adequate security to them till the elections are over.

Addressing a press conference here at a local hotel in Srinagar, the independent candidates who have filed their nomination papers for the polls slated to be held from Oct 08, 2018 here said that it sees that the BJP has hijacked all the process.

They said that they are not getting any response from the government over security.

“We demand the authorities to provide adequate security to the independent candidates who are contesting in the polls so that their lives are safeguarded,” they said. 

Nocturnal Raids In Pulwama

Government Forces arrested three youth from Rohmu village of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district during nocturnal raids, a local news agency reported on Thursday. One of the arrested youth is the cousin of active Hizb militant Adnan Hamid.

Reports said that Government Forces conducted nocturnal raids in Rohmu village and arrested three youth. Locals said that all the three youth were shifted to SOG camp Kakapora.

Locals identified the arrested trio as Arshid Ahmed, Muzamil Ahmed Dar and Raju. Muzamil Dar is the cousin of active Hizb militant Adnan Hamid.
