SRINAGAR An exchange of gunfight broke out between militants and government forces at Yaroo area of Langate, Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Tuesday late afternoon.
An army official said that earlier soldiers of 30 RR patrolling party was attacked by the militants at Ganapora near Yaroo area of Langate, Handwara and the fire was retaliated which resulted into the gunfight for some time. The militants believed to be two to three in number flee from the site, he said.
Later, a massive search operation was launched with the help of additional reinforcements of army, SOG and 90 bn CRPF, he said.
As the joint team of forces with the help of sniffer dogs intensified the searches amid fired some warning shots towards the suspected spot, the militants tried to break the cordon, however, were engaged in an encounter, he said.
Meanwhile, when reports last came in, the intermittent exchange of firing was going on.
