A police officer confirmed the filing of the missing report and told GNS that investigations have been speeded up to trace out the BUMS student, Shamsul Haq .

Asked about the possibility of Haq having joined militant ranks, the officer said: “it cannot be ruled out.”

As reported already, Haq’s possibility of joining the militant outfit has set alarm bells ringing among the political and security establishment in the Valley.

Official sources told GNS that the youth Shamsul Haq son of Mohammad Rafiq Mengnoo, a resident of Draggud village at present Srinagar, is missing since May 22, as per the family.

Haq is pursuing Bachelors of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS) from a government college here in Zakura campus.  The missing youth is the brother of an IPS officer who belongs to outside J&K cadre.

Since March this year, joining of youths in militancy has shown a surge in Valley particular in south Kashmir.
