SrinagarDivisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan, who is also the head of Divisional Sports Committee, today convened a meeting to review the implementation of Special Package for development of Sports Infrastructure in all districts including Leh and Kargil under Prime Ministers Development Programme (PMDP).
The meeting was informed that Indoor Stadiums are under construction in every district including Leh and Kargil so that sports activities will be performed during winter months also for the benefit of national as well as international players.
Divisional Commissioner directed all Deputy Commissioners to speed up the pace of construction work and ensure that these prestigious projects shall be completed within given timeline. He explained the timely completion would allow players to carry on with their sports activities throughout the year, adding it will help the State players to perform better at a national and international sports level.
He stressed DCs to implement Chief Ministers directions, which she passed during her public outreach programme regarding sports development, in letter and spirit.
While reviewing Khelo India scheme, other PMDP and Rural Development works under convergence scheme regarding sports development in Kashmir division, Div Com asked Sports Council and Youth Services Sports departments to pull up their socks and start the construction work immediately so that the stadiums and playing fields in the valley are ready before the start of new sports calendar.
The meeting was further informed that Bakshi stadium will be developed according to the FIFA norms and the estimated cost of the project is Rs 48 crores. Floodlights, six entries, modern pavilion, food court and other state-of-art technology will be provided in the stadium.
Khan directed executing agency to finish the prestigious project in a time-bound manner.
VC SDA, Joint Director Youth Services & Sports, Officers from JK Sports Council, Deputy Director Planning, Assistant Commissioner and other concerned officers were present in the meeting while as Deputy Commissioners of the valley including Leh & Kargil participated in the meeting through video conference
