SHOPIAN: Unidentified gunmen Thursday struck once again and looted Rs three lakh from a branch of Jammu and Kashmir Bank at Turkawangum area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Local sources said that three unidentified gunmen barged into the JK Bank branch and before looting the cash, fired at least four bullets in air, thus creating panic in the area and the Bank staff.
Sources added that unidentified gunmen hurriedly picked up the cash from the counter and fled from the spot.
Sources added that police party that rushed to the spot shortly after the incident came under heavy stone-pelting attack. The locals termed the robbery as an act “to defame militants”.
A group of masked militants robbed Jammu and Kashmir Bank branch Turkwangan in Shopian on Thursday, police said in a statement.
“A group of 03-04 masked militants barged into J&K Bank branch Turkwangan in the jurisdiction of Police Station Zainapora, Shopian. They fired some aerial shots inside the bank premises and looted the cash worth Rs 3,01,701/= from the bank. Shopian police has registered a case FIR number 06/2017 under section 451, 307, 392, 34 RPC, 7/27 I.A Act, 16, 38 ULA (P) Act into the matter and investigation was taken up,” the statement added.
