Srinagar:- The eight-day youth festival Sonzal-2017 concluded at the University of Kashmir on Monday.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi was the chief guest at the valedictory function, while Registrar Prof Khursheed A Butt and Dean Research Prof Zafar Ahmad Reshi were the guests of honour.
In his address, Prof Andrabi said that youth festivals provide an opportunity to students from varied backgrounds and disciplines to interact with each other as well as showcase their talent.
Such festivals also bring about freshness in the university life, he said.
Hundreds of students from 40 degree colleges and 45 university teaching departments competed in different competitions including quiz, debate, elocution, poster-making, painting, cartoon-making, rangoli, clay-modelling, spot photography, one-act play, mimicry, classical, folk and instrumental music.
Congratulating the award-winners, Prof Andrabi said: Education does not mean only securing degrees and marks; it means overall development of an individual. The university is committed to provide right kind of atmosphere, as well as platform, to nurture the talent of youth.
Dean Students Welfare, Prof GN Khaki, highlighted the aims and objectives of the festival, while Cultural Officer Shahid Ali Khan conducted the proceedings of the valedictory ceremony.
