SrinagarFive soldiers went missing after avalanches hit two Army posts on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Tuesday.
Two soldiers went missing in Kupwara district’s Nowgam sector on Monday evening and three others disappeared on Tuesday morning in Bandipora district’s Gurez sector.
Confirming the incident, an official said that at least three soldiers from 36 Rashtriya Rifles of Indian Army have been missing and efforts are on to trace the missing soldiers.
He said two more soldiers went missing after avalanche hit in Nowgam sector of Kupwara district.
He said continuous snowfall has been hampering the rescue operation.
He said that more than five feet snow has accumulated as it is snowing continuously since Sunday.
Pertinently, this year in January at least 22 Army soldiers died due to snow furry in Gurez and Sonmarg areas of North and Central Kashmir.
