KulgamThousands of people participated in the last rites of local slain militant Yawar Bashir at his native village Hiblish in South Kashmirs Kulgam district.
Reports said that back to back multiple funeral prayers were offered in favour of the slain militants amid pro-Islam and pro freedom slogans.
Yawar Bashir along with his two associates was killed in Bhadragund-Bonigam area on Srinagar-Jammu highway. Yawar according to his family members was a Hafiz-e-Quran.
Reports added that police handed over the body of slain militant to family on Monday night. Thousands of mourners visited his native village.
A police official said that two non-local militants Furqan Ahmed and Abu Maviya who were also killed in the gunfight were laid to rest in the dead of the night at Gantmulla in North Kashmirs Baramulla district.
There are couple of grave yards reserved for non-local militants in North Kashmir.
Meanwhile, the killing of these militants sparked spontaneous shutdown in Kulgam and its adjoining areas.
Massive clashes erupted in several areas of Kulgam district after the killing of these pellets.
Eyewitnesses and reports said that clashes erupted near the site of gunfight in Nusu Badragund and Bonigam villages inQazigund.
They said government forces resorted to tear-gas shelling to disperse the protesters, who in return pelted the forces with stones.
Clashes were also reported from Vesu and Devsar areas besides other adjoining villages.
An eye witness said that the traffic on Srinagar-Jammu highway was affected due to the clashes near Qazigund.
Officials said the traffic was diverted to Verinag-Anantnag highway.
The authorities suspended the train and Internet services in twin districts of Anantnag and Kulgam.
Who was Yawar Mir ?
Yawar Mir joined militant ranks during 2016 unrest after the killing of Hizbul Mujhadeen commander Burhan Wani.
He was 17 years old and had studied at Darul Uloom Bilalia here in Kashmir capital Srinagar and left it after becoming Hafiz-e-Quran.
According to his family members, Yawar offered his service as Imam in a local Masjid in Hazratbal area of Srinagar city before joining militant outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba.
Bashir Ahmed Mir, his father is a Forester posted in District Kulgam. I tried to persuade him a lot but categorically refused to return. I was helpless and didnt insist further because he was so much religious who never missed his prayers, Mir said.
Yawar, a native of Hablish village in South Kashmir is survived by parents, 3 sisters and 2 brothers.
Yawar according to police was affiliated with a group that was active in twin districts of Kulgam and Anantnag. This group was led by Furqan, a non-local militant who according to police was involved in a number of incidents, the prominent being the Yatra bus attack case at Batingo, attack at Lower Munda and also on police party at bus stand Anantnag in South Kashmir.

Paying rich tributes to slain youth Yawar Bashir and Abu Mavia of Qazi Gund encounter, Chairman All Parties Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Geelani today said our youth lay their lives to end the age-old slavery of their nation & putting a huge responsibility on our shoulders to honour these sacrifices and take the movement to its logical end.
Meanwhile, Syed Ali Geelani in his telephonic address to mourners reiterated that joint resistance leadership will hold a public program (Jalsa) on December 15 2017, at Lal Chowk Islamabad, asking people to attend in large number and added that participation of people will symbolize their attachment with freedom movement and leadership.
Referring to those slain youth who had expressed their will that Geelani should offer their funeral prayers, he said that, I myself feel it an obligation and a blessing to pray for them, however I am not in a position to attend, as I have been under house arrest since past seven years and authorities are even barring me from offering religious obligations, said Syed Ali Geelani while addressing mourners.
While extending condolences with bereaved families, Geelani said: Our youth are sacrificing their present forthe betterment of our tomorrow.
They are writing a history with by blood, which puts a huge responsibility on us to safeguard these sacrifices and never to compromise with the mission, he said.
Paying tributes to Yawar Bashir, Geelani said that he since past 20 years served the sacred cause and laid his life to nourish movement with his sacred blood.
Blaming pro-Indian parties for present appalling situations, Geelani said that they are responsible for this forced occupation and urged people to stay away from these parties and never bargain with them for pity interests.
They are opportunists, said Geelani, asking people to boycott upcoming elections and added that we dont nourish any animosity against India or their people and nor we want to take any part of it, and as such bonded inmutual relations, however they have forcibly occupied our state.
Kashmir is not integral part of India and Indian authorities should avoid parroting about this, said Geelani and added we time and again repeat that Indian leadership has made commitment with international community and with us.
Syed Ali Geelani said that it was India which took the case to the UN and said that the people of J&K would be given the right to self-determination. That resolution was accepted by both India and Pakistan and the world community is witness to it, added he.
I assure my nation that one day we will emerge as free nation, said Syed Ali Geelani during his address and asked people to follow the three principals laid by Tehreek-e-Hurriyat as guideline for obtaining the freedom from forced occupation.
