My parents, who are above 65 years, were travelling from Srinagar – Delhi – Doha Jet Airways on November 29. They had their passports, tickets and visas with them. The Srinagar Jet Airways checked their documents and issued boarding passes for them up to Doha. However, the Delhi, Jet Airways people stopped them and allowed only my father to go ahead, citing reasons that something is wrong in my mothers visa. When asked about the problem, it was found that her name ( Khazra Jaffer ) was correct in the ticket, in the passport and in the visa, her passport number ( K5565777 ) was correct as in the visa and ticket details. But what they found was that, one last letter in her Late father’s name was not matching. Ghulam Mohammad Mia was written instead of Ghulam Mohammad Mir. It was the mistake of the visa issuing authority in Qatar and that too in her fathers name. They stopped her and showed very rude behavior towards her and told my father that we cannot stop the aeroplane for you or we will throw your baggage out of the plane if you do not board alone. And they made him board alone. My father being so naive, couldn’t do anything. My mother is hypertensive and diabetic and needs medicines for that. She was left alone at the mercy of God, at Delhi International Airport. They didn’t let her go to immigration officer who would have solved the problem.
I called her and talked to the Jet Airways personnel there, who were very reluctant to talk and with difficulty they could just tell me that they cannot help it. I told them we can get visa on arrival in Qatar so it should not be a problem but they bluntly refused in a very rude way. I couldn’t understand why they were showing so much of indifference and attitude. Was it really such a big mistake, even if it was she should have been stopped at Srinagar Airport and not in the transit. I struggled a lot to go to the ministry in Qatar and managed to make that subtle change.
I sent the visa at 8:30 pm IST to the email address provided by them ([email protected] ) and told my mother to ask them to inform the aeroplane crew accordingly but again they did some 10 to 15 min delay in taking out the print out, saying we are doing it but it is under process, and then told her sorry the aeroplane has left and you will need to board next flight. This is how they made her miss the flight. Instead of helping people especially senior citizens, they are creating more problems for them. I cannot tell you how rude was the behaviour of the JetAirways employees.
Then I called the customer care office at Delhi and asked if I can book a ticket to Doha and get visa on arrival there, he told me it is very much possible and I can do that. Then I narrated the whole story to him about my mother and he felt very sad and even apologized for that and said, it should not have happened. He acknowledged that it was a mistake made by the Jet Airways people as it was not that much of a problem.
We all suffered huge mental trauma because of this and I want legal action against those ill-mannered rude employees who created all this fuss.
