Three Lashker-e-Taiba militants, including two Pakistanis, an army soldier were killed in an encounter in Qazigund area of South Kashmir, police said on Tuesday
One militant, who had managed to flee from the encounter site, was also arrested by the police from a maternity hospital of Anantnag district of South Kashmir, they said.
The encounter broke Monday afternoon when the militants opened fire on an Army convoy, on its way to Srinagar, at Qazigund on Jammu-Srinagar national highway. One soldier was killed in the attack while another sustained injuries.
The slain soldier was identified as Sepoy Jitender Singh. He belonged to 10 SIKH LI
The government forces cordoned off the area and launched a hunt for the militants. The search operation turned into an encounter with militants which ended at 2 AM this morning, the police said.
The police identified the dead militants as Yawar Basir, who is a local militant, Abu Furqan and Abu Maviya (both foreign militants). Basir, hailing from Habiash of Kulgam, joined ranks with Lashker-e-Taiba this year in February after snatching weapon from a policeman.
Furqan had taken over as the head of Lashker-e-Taiba in South Kashmir after the death of Abu Ismail, who had led the attack on Amarnath pilgrims in July this year.
Police said that all the three, killed today, were part of the squad that carried out the attack on yatris on July 10 in which eight pilgrims were killed and 19 others injured.

Meanwhile,local youth who tried to help the trapped militant flee from the house clashed with the forces who responded by firing tear-smoke shells and pellets to disperse them.
According to sources, a civilian identified as Suhail Ahmad Khan (29) son of M Yaqoob Khan received injured after forces engaged in the encounter opened fire on protesters near the gunfight site.
Suhail a resident of Badragund locality was hit with bullet on his back however according to hospital sources he was stable.
Locals said that they heard massive blasts during evening hours and it seemed the building in which militant are present have been razed to ground.
Traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar highway remained suspended because of the gunfight. The train service between the Kashmir Valley and the Bannihal town in Jammu region was also disrupted.
LeT Owns Attack
Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack on Army convoy in Kulgam on Srinagar-Jammu national highway on Monday afternoon. A spokesman for the outfit told local media that Bashir Lashkeri squad was involved in the attack and claimed that four security personnel were killed and several others injured. He warned more such attacks.
