Pakistan hosts largest number of refugees: UNHCR

Islamabad—The United Nations High Commission for Refugees [UNHCR] declared Pakistan as host to the largest number of refugees, primarily Afghan refugees.

According to the UNHCR report, the country has hosted as many as 1.45 million people hailing from Afghanistan for more than three decades.

The report highlights that voluntary repatriation of Afghan refugees from Pakistan to their own country was also seen as the largest in the world.

UNHCR commissioner lauded the country for hosting millions of refugees, providing best possible facilities to those from different countries, stressing on helping Afghan refugees of the war-torn country.

The UNHCR has facilitated the return of approximately 4.1 million registered Afghans from Pakistan since 2002.
