Nitin Chowdhary Takes Over As Chief PRO Northern Railway

New Delhi- Nitin Chowdhary Chief Mechanical Engineer, IT, Northern Railway on Friday took  over as Chief Public Relations Officer, Northern Railway. He succeeds  Neeraj Sharma.

An Indian Railways Mechanical Engineer (IRSME) of 1986 batch,  Chowdhary has nearly 30 years of wide-ranging experience in varied engineering, operations and IT fields on the Railways.  Chowdhary held key positions on Railways viz. EDME(Development), Railway Board, New Delhi, Director (Vehicle Dynamics Group), RDSO, Lucknow, Chief Workshop Engineer (Wheel) & Chief Vigilance Officer at Rail Wheel factory Bangalore etc. and marked a career with notable distinctions Some of his noteworthy achievements in his assignments include the following:

In the mechanical engineering department,  Chowdhary was the frontline executive leading change and technological transformation on Indian Railways dynamically managing teams of Running Crew transitioning from traction modes of Steam Locomotive by   Diesel locomotive and taking on to Electrical Locomotives . In the Railways’ Research & Designs Organization, RDSO,  Chowdhary made distinct achievements viz. successfully development of 13 variants of self-generating LHB coaches prudentially utilizing internal resources of RDSO, study of dynamic behavior of high speed LHB coaches during the import and Transfer of Technology phase. Leveraging technology, he brought in new user facilities through digitalization and upgradation of systems for operations viz. first Indian design of Air-springs for EMUs for the first time on Indian Railways.  Chowdhary also helmed the project for Optimizing the suspension design of first ever 23t high capacity parcel van of Indian Railways which is currently running at 110 km/h.  Chowdhary also held key operational posts at Freight wagon maintenance depots like New Katni Junction (NKJ), a depot holding over 25,000 BOXN wagons, managed Steam locomotive shed, Jabalpur where he took notable initiatives, mentored teams and created new benchmarks.

Chowdhary holds a graduate degree from Indian Railways Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (IRIMEE), Jamalpur and Masters of Science degree in Design Engineering (MS), BITS Pilani.  Chowdhary has authored several technical papers in national and international journals. Interestingly, he also holds Sangeet Visharad in Hindustani Classical Music and in (Instrumental) – Tabla.
