SrinagarCentral University of Kashmir (CUK), Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir today said the varsity would never compromise on the quality of research undertaken by the scholars of different departments.
You must necessarily go to the field to gather data for conducting research then only your findings will be authentic and relevant to the society, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir told the scholars at the inaugural session of the two-week Research Methodology Workshop, organized by the Department of Management Studies at Nowgam-I academic block of the university.
Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, Director Research and Development, Prof. Abdul Gani, Dean School of Business Studies, Prof. S Fayyaz, Head Department of Management Studies, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah, Deans of other Schools, Heads and Coordinators of different departments and research scholars were also present on the occasion.
Prof. Mehraj ud Mir asked the scholars to choose the topic for research on their own and subsequently justify the reason for selecting it. He said the main purpose and objective of the research is to solve the problems confronted by the masses, adding, that the standard of the university is gauged by the quality of the research produced by it. CUK Vice-Chancellor also asked the senior faculty members to share their experiences and expertise with regard to their earlier research findings and the extent to which it has been implemented on the ground.
Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, described research as the backbone of any institution, particularly the universities and said the institutions are ranked across the world by the kind of research output. He said the research has to be strictly based on the problems and burning issues confronted by the society in the contemporary times. Prof. Zargar added that the number of scholars in the university has also increased manifold and the varsity was providing all possible facilities to facilitate their research work.
Director Research and Development, Prof. Abdul Gani while addressing the gathering said the varsity has constituted Central Research Council, which has taken several important decisions to facilitate the scholars in conducting and producing quality research work. He said the CRC would work for creating good research culture in the varsity and has already introduced steps like procurement of anti-plagiarism software. Prof. Gani asked the scholars to prepare the executive summary of their research so that it could be submitted to the concerned government institutions and agencies for implementation and further compliance.
Dean, School of Business Studies, and Head Department of Tourism Studies, Prof. S Fayyaz said that it is a proud moment for the Department of Management Studies for holding the fourth such workshop in a row. He said that this time the scholars have been invited from five different departments of the university. He said the objective of the workshop is to make scholars aware about the different types of research methodologies.
Head Department of Management Studies, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah while welcoming the guests said the department has invited a galaxy of experts from within and outside the state to share their expertise and experiences to the scholars and clear their doubts and answer queries regarding the conduct of the research.
Senior Assistant Professor, Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Lone conducted the programme proceedings while as Senior Assistant Professor, Dr. Zia ul Haq proposed the vote of thanks.
CUK films awarded at KWFF

Central University of Kashmir (CUK) Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir on Monday lauded the students of Department of Convergent Journalism (DCJ) for bagging awards for their films at Kashmir World Film Festival (KWFF) and congratulated the department for the same.
The awards were announced on November 5, 2017 during a ceremony held at Tagore Hall wherein the District Development Commission Srinagar, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah handed over the prizes to the winners.
Out of four entries sent by the department, two bagged the awards. The Lake Town made by Ms. Sana Irshad, Mr. Sadiq Hussain and Mr. Muzamil Ahmad was adjudged as Best Film and Bhangaar Bazaar made by Mr. Khursheed Ahmad and Mr. Muqeet ul Amin was selected for Special Jury Award. The films were made by students as part of their capstone media project.
Expressing his pleasure, Vice-Chancellor said, This is a proud moment for the whole University. I am glad that our students are making mark in the field and are putting in efforts to highlight the problems and issues confronting society through award winning documentaries.
Registrar and Dean School of Media Studies, Prof. M. Afzal Zargar, also hailed the students and the faculty members for the achieving the feat. In such a festival where films from different parts of the country were screened and evaluated by the experts from the industry, we are proud that the films made by students were awarded. He said that our students are enormously talented and their talent needs to be channelized.
Dean School of Education and Director IQAC, Prof N. A Nadeem said the DCJ is a flagship programme of the varsity and stressed the need to focus more on the practical exercises.
Coordinator, DCJ, Dr. Asif Khan expressed gratitude to the senior functionaries and briefed them about the films, theme selection and work of the students. It was a complete team work of faculty, students and production staff of the department with active support from the university administration that made these awards possible, he said.
