AnantnagThe residents of Dehruna Mantpora area of Anantnag District on Monday morning staged a protest against the department of public health engineering (PHE) against the non-availability of drinking water in the area.
The protesters including women and children assembled in court yard of District Commissioner Anantnag and staged a protest against the department of public health engineering (PHE).
The protesters were demanding restoration of the water supply in the area which is blocked for several weeks.
We have no drinking water for past several weeks. We are forced to drink dirty water of nearby streams. The department is not doing anything to mitigate our suffering, said Zaina Begam a local resident.
We have been forced to come to the DC office, so that officials hear our grievances. We hope that the administration will ensure we are provided water, otherwise we will be forced to take extreme steps, she added.
Meanwhile when contacted to the concerned official in PHE Department, he said that there is some technical fault in the water pipe in the area. Our employees are on job and hopefully they will restore water will be restore in area today.
