We’re not against talks: Geelani

Srinagar—Castigating New Delhi for its ‘failure’ to create a ‘conducive’ atmosphere for ‘serious and sincere’ talks, Hurriyat (G) Chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Saturday said Hurriyat was not against talks as the only option to solve Kashmir issue is through a “meaningful” dialogue.

“Our viewpoint is unambiguous that Kashmir issue can be resolved through dialogue, however the onus lies on India to illustrate its seriousness and sincerity,” Geelani said in a statement issued to the media. “Conducive atmosphere for negotiations is prime necessity,” he said adding history stands witness, that India instead of acknowledging its historical perspective, as core and political issue, always treated it a law and order problem.

“Dialogue is the only option but India has never assigned any political importance to this issue,” he said.

Geelani asked about the outcome of their recommendations put forth by earlier groups led by Ram Jeth Malani, Padgawkar and Congress working group.

Geelani cautioned the “unabated state sponsored violence, arrests, intimidations and killings” will further deteriorate the situation.

Appoint interlocutor, Er Rashid To Hurriyat

AIP Supremo and MLA Langate Er. Rasheed Saturday advised Hurriyat not to skip the dialogue with the Delhi appointed interlocutor Dineshwar Sharma who begins his four-day visit starting Monday.

He said although it is up to Hurriyat leadership to reject or accept the talk offer but they can corner New Delhi and throw ball back in its court by appointing an interlocutor to talk to New Deli’s interlocutor. “It may end the excuse that Kashmiris are not interested in talks and may also expose New Delhi’s hidden agenda,” he said.
