SrinagarThe Rural Development Department has ordered 15 junior engineers to look after work of Assistant Engineers despite the fact that a number of them have corruption and criminal cases pending against them.
In an order issued here, the RDD said that the arrangement was purely temporary in nature. However, sources said that this has been done to absorb some of the blued eyed engineers against the clear cut directions by the Supreme Court.
They said that while three of those promoted have cases pending with Crime Branch in connection with fake degree certificates while one of them was caught red handed taking corruption.
The Apex Court in the case of Centre for Public Interest Litigation v. Union of India & Anr, (2005) 8 SCC 202, has held that the postings of officers holding sensitive posts should be done in a transparent manner giving no scope for any grievance.
The Supreme Court has also barred that the transfer to some other posts of the delinquent officer who is facing alleged serious charges of malpractice and corruption.
When contacted for comments, Commissioner Secretary Nirmal Sharma dropped the call after hearing the query. Later, the officer did not respond to repeated calls by GNS.
