PulwamaPolice on Friday said that the militants hiding in a forest area of Tral managed to escape from their hideout after firing indiscriminately on the government forces.
Once the forces were laying the cordon of the hideout, the hiding militants fired indiscriminately upon the forces which was retaliated but taking advantage of dense forests/terrain the militants managed to escape from the said hideout, said a statement, issued by the police.
The search operation in the area is still on, it added.
The statement said that the operation was launched after a Jaish militant arrested last night in Tral said that four of his associates were hiding in Pastuna forests of Tral.
Earlier, forces launched a search operation and took help of choppers after gunshots were heard in the forest area in Tral area in south Kashmir.
Forces have been rushed to the area and they are conducting searches as they suspect the presence of militants, said an official.
