SrinagarThere seem to be no stopping in the braid chopping incidents in the Valley as some fresh cases were reported on Thursday.
A girl fought off a braid chopper, who tried to cut her hair early this morning in Bandipora district.
The first braid chopping incident was reported in Baramulla this morning.
Reports said that the braid of a teenage girl (name withheld ) living with her family in a rented accommodation in Khawaja Bagh Baramulla was cut during the night.
Another Braid chopping incident happened at Singpora Pattan, in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Reports said that the braid choppers cut the braid of a women and fled , after which people protested on Srinagar-Baramulla highway and blocked the highway.
A braid chopping incident was also reported from Nowdal Tral area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Reportedly braid of 6th standard girl was also chopped in Noor Bagh area of Srinagar.
Inspector General of Police Muneer Khan on Wednesday said it was hard for the police to nab the culprits behind braid chopping as the victims were not cooperating.
The authorities have failed to nab the briad choppers despite setting up helplines and announcing a number of other measures, including doubling the reward money to Rs 6 lakh for providing information.
Police version of the Baramulla incident
Police on Thursday issued a statement about the alleged braid chopping incident in north Kashmirs Baramulla district
Today morning a Braid chopping incident having taken place at Khwaja Bagh Baramulla was reported to Police Station Baramula. Thereafter Police party went on spot and inspected the scene of occurrence and started preliminary investigation into the matter which revealed that: The victim is a teenage girl (name withheld) living with her family in a rented accommodation in Khawaja Bagh Baramulla.
The family is hailing originally from Uri and father of the girl works in Police department. The girl reported that her Braid was chopped during the night, however she was sleeping in the same room with her parents and there seemed to be no possibility of any outsider making entry into the room.
The father has gone to duty in the morning as per routine. During further investigation it was found that the victim girl is suffering from psychiatric ailment with DISSOCIATIVE symptoms and has been undergoing medical treatment for that. She was examined by psychiatrist on 28th September with a follow up check up yesterday only in District Hospital Baramulla. Today also a psychiatrist called by police to examine her and the report is awaited.
The girl claimed that Braid Chopper made entry through wall and escaped through closed door which manifests conversion disorder (Hysteria). Police has also recovered a fresh shaving blade from the spot.
Further investigating of the case is going on, taking into account all circumstances and facts.
