SrinagarAhead of 10th Muharram, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik has been arrested by police and immediately shifted to central jail Srinagar on a judicial remand, a spokesman said on Friday.
According to the statement, JKLF spokesman said that police Friday morning raided the office of JKLF at Abi Guzar and arrested Malik along with JKLF Zonal organizer Bashir Ahmad.
Both were immediately shifted to central jail Srinagar on a 4 day judicial remand, he said.
Before his arrest, Malik talked to media person present outside JKLF office and said that Kashmir has been turned into a military garrison where every human and democratic right of people has been snapped and snatched by the occupational authorities.
Malik said that from 1985, to promote unity and harmony among Muslims, he along with other youth in resistance have been participating in Ashura programs. Our participation in such programs has always been helpful and appreciated by every sane person of the society but it is the rulers and their police that gets unnerved by unity and harmony among Kashmiri Muslims and from last some years I am being arrested and put behind bars on this occasion, Malik said.
JKLF chief according to the spokesman was scheduled to participate in Aashura programs at Maisuma and Zadibal on 9th and 10th Muharam.
Terming the ban on Muharram procession and mourning as most undemocratic, unethical and direct interference in religious affairs of Muslims, Malik said, Ban on Muharram programs is actually a glaring example of apathy and double standard of fascists who want to curb every voice of dissent with military and police force and tyranny.
He said that in Kashmir blanket ban has been imposed on every religious, political, social and human activity. Even mourning on dead ones and participating in condolence meetings stands banned. All this is being done in the name of democracy, peace and restoring law and order and other slogans like these, he said.
Malik said that using undemocratic means to deny people their democratic rights is only naked fascism of the rulers but everyone should recognize that fascism, tyranny, illegal occupation and other evil deeds have very little life and undergoing defeat is its final fate. The rulers and their masters should know that their oppressive measures can never break our will and resolve; instead these harsh measures strengthen our belief and resolve in resistance, he said.
