Sarai Bala residents protest against water scarcity

Srinagar—Inhabitants of Sarai Bala here on Thursday staged protest against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department for ‘failing to provide adequate water supply to them’.

The protesting inhabitants also blocked the Amira Kadal road here, which resulted in the a traffic mess for half an hour.

The locals mostly women raised slogans against PHE department and were demanding immediate restoration of water supply to them.

The protesting residents said that they are facing immense hardships due to the acute shortage of water supply from last one week. “With the acute shortage of water scarcity in the area, we are being forced to fetch water from outside,” they said.

The inhabitants alleged that officials in the PHE department have failed to provide water supply to them as per schedule.

Police officials later reached the spot and assured them of taking up their matter with the PHE officials.

The protesters after the assurances by the Police officials dispersed peacefully.
