Kargil—Anguished by the rise in ‘immoral activities’ in relatively crime free Kargil district thousands of women Thursday staged a massive protest demanding stringent punishment to the culprits and vigil against vested interests who want to pollute the serene atmosphere of the Himalayan district.

The protest held under the auspices of Zainabia Women Welfare Society, a subsidiary of Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust (IKMT) started from Bus Stand and culminated at Hussaini Park after marching through Main Bazar.

The protesters were also joined by thousands of students from various schools. They were also displaying placards with slogans against women exploitation.

The protest was staged after a porn video clip got viral which sparked outrage across Kargil district. However, both the culprits were arrested earlier and later court released them on bail.

Talking to Kashmir Observer Fatima Banoo head of Zainabia said, “The society, police and administration should respect women and we would not tolerate any kind of exploitation of women in our society”. She further added that “Such videos were against human culture and against Islamic values and promote immorality in the society”.

At Hussaini park, Hajia Khatija Salehi, Principal Jamia Fatima Zahra condemned the video which got viral in the society and also expressed her resentment over the bail granted to the accused.

Najma Banoo, Principal Boys Higher Secondary School Kargil also said that people of Kargil should wake up against such immoral activities.

Beside that Haji Zahra Yousufi and some teachers also spoke on the occasion.

It was Zainabia Women Welfare Society which had lodged an FIR (No. 38-2017 Under section 67-AIT Act- 377 RPC) against the accused at police station Kargil, on 5th of August complaining that the video was against the social structure of Kargil and also defamed the moral stature of the region.

Taking the gravity of the case, SSP Kargil T. Gyalpo constituted a special team of investigation headed by DySP Ishtiyaq Ahmed Kacho. On the same day, the team moved to Kashmir to trace the accused. After thorough search of many areas in Ganderbal district with the help of CDR details of both the accused, the team succeeded in arresting the duo on national highway near Ganderbal police Station on 6th of August.

On August 19 the court released both the culprits on bail sparking widespread resentment in the district.
