Slain Cable Operator Laid to Rest


Shopian— A large number of people participated in the last rites of Cable Operator, Hilal Ahmed Malik who was killed by unknown gunmen in South Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Reports said that hundreds of people offered his funeral prayers.

Shortly after his killing on Sunday night, police issued a handout that read: “Police on the basis of human and technical intelligence identified the militants who killed the cable network owner Hilal Ahmad Malik this evening. The militants involved in the attack on cable network owner are Zubair Ahmad Turray son of Bashir Ahmad Turray resident of Bonbazar, Shopian and Umar Nazir Malik alias Khattab son of Nazir Ahmad Malik resident of Malikgund, Shopian. Police have launched a massive manhunt to nab the perpetrators and will bring them to justice very soon.”

Hurriyat demands probe

Geelani led Huriyat Monday demanded probe into the killings of Gowher Ahmad (student) and Hilal Ahmad Malik (cable operator) of Shopian.

In a statement issued here, Hurriyat Conference demanded an impartial probe into the killing and said that mysterious and innocent killings should be a matter of concern for us. various Indian agencies are working in state and mysterious killing is being carried under well thought out plan, added Huriyat.

Appealing international bodies for their cognizance, Hurriyat said that it is their moral responsibility to play a role in stopping such incidents in Kashmir and bring facts to fore.
