Islamabad: Lasting peace between Pakistan and India can only be achieved through solving the Kashmir issue,” said Pakistan’s newly appointed Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif.
Addressing a press conference Asif said, “Lasting peace can only be attained through solving the Kashmir issue.”
He further said, that Pakistan will help people of Kashmir to achieve their right to hold a referendum, which has also been recognised by the United Nations and the global community.”
“Peace between the two countries is intertwined with Kashmir dispute and in light of the UN agreement, people of Kashmir want the right to vote for self determination,” he added.
We have always wanted to maintain good relations with both countries, but they have never given any positive response to Pakistan’s initiatives for lasting peace in the area, Asif said.
The Foreign Minister accused New Delhi of systematically violating the ceasefire on the Line of Control, the de facto border in the Kashmir.
He also denounced alleged plans by India to use Afghan territory in order to destabilize Pakistan.
Both accusations are rejected by Modi’s government, who in turn it considers Islamabad to be an aggressor state and accuses it of supporting militias present in Kashmir. Agencies
