Srinagar- Team Pine led by ace hotelier Mushtaq Ahmad Burza Saturday clinched one-day 7th J&K Golfers Association Tournament played at Pahalgam Golf Course on Saturday.
Team Pine was followed by Team Chinar on the leaders board.
Pahalgam exhibited pleasant weather to the golfers with clear sky making the venue perfect setting for the tourney. According to the statement from the organizers, the tournament was teed off by Vice Chairman Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation Rafi Mir.
As many as 70 golfers belonging to the state and outside state took part in the tournament that was played on match play format between two teams of 36 pairs each
SDS Jamwal and Iqbal Tramboo were declared as winner for Highest Margin, Sarmad Hafeez clinched Lowest Drive, Farooq Rafiquee bagged Nearest to Pin, Arif Dev went away with Straight Drive while as Dr. Arshid clinched Bulls Eye.
This was the second golf tournament of the season organized by J&K Golfers Association in Kashmir in association with J&K Tourism and the first in Pahalgam Golf Course.
Minister for Public Works Naeem Akhtar who was the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony gave away the awards to the winners.
VC JKTDC Rafi Mir who was also present at the prize distribution ceremony said government is reviving the golf tourism in Kashmir.
We also have best infrastructure for conference tourism. We will promote both golf and MICE, he said
Director Tourism Kashmir Mahmood A Shah said J&K has best golf courses where major tournaments would be held regularly.
We have golf courses in Jammu. Kashmir is also a golfing bowl where we have best golf courses be it Royal Springs Golf Course or the Golf courses at Pahalgam or Gulmarg. We will also have words highest golf course at Leh which will be soon thrown open, said Shah.
He said government is taking all out efforts to promote the J&K as golfing circuit. He said state is blessed with golf courses as it has best courses in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions.
President J&K Golfers Association Mushtaq Burza thanked the golfers for their participation and making the tournament a success.
He said JK Golfers Association is trying to promote golf by inviting golfers form across India for such tournaments.
The tournament was also sponsored by Pahalgam Hotels and Restaurant Owners Association.
