SrinagarAccording to the Director Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA), the department has put in place elaborate market checking measures to keep a check on profiteering, black marketing and hoarding during the holy month of Ramazan.
For carrying out the drive effectively the district Srinagar has been divided into four zones wherein each zone is headed by a senior official of TSO level. For comprehensive and effective market checking, two Assistant Directors have been assigned to monitor the progress of the drive.
Similar arrangements of market checking and monitoring have also been ensured in rest of the valley districts. Traders have been advised to adhere to the approved rates and measures and follow the norms religiously.
Meanwhile, in the month of May, market checking teams of the Directorate has inspected 460 business establishments. A penal sum of Rs. 67400 has been charged from 125 erring shopkeepers for violation of different Provisions of Essential Commodities Act.
During the last five months, the Enforcement Wing have penalized 685 violators and realized Rs. 3, 32,700.
